I really went off the cuff, as crisps are a dessert I’ve been making for a looooong time (read: pretty much my entire life), and have no recipe for. I did my best to summate what we did yesterday:
Grain-free Apple Crisp
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Ingredients for filling:
6 baking apples (Macoun, Granny Smith (very tart), Cortland etc)
1/4-1/3 cup maple syrup or granulated maple sugar
2-3 TBS arrowroot powder
Juice of half lemon/zest of lemon
2-3 TBS spices – apple pie, pumpkin pie, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice etc
2 TBS grassfed butter
Mix all ingredients except butter and put in baking dish….break butter into little pieces and put on top of filling.
*This is the basic filling. Feel free to embellish and add dried cranberries, or raisins etc.
Make crisp topping:
In a bowl, mix the following ingredients:
1 cup almond flour
2-3 TBS cinnamon
2-3 TBS coconut sugar or granulated maple sugar
Add in 1/4 cup grassfed butter, cut into little pieces.
Use fingers to break butter up in topping mix, creating small pea size or smaller, pieces of butter.
*This is the basic topping. Feel free to embellish and add toasted, slivered nuts – almonds work well 😉
Place topping over apples. Cover w.tin foil and bake 30ish min….take foil off and bake 15ish more min.
